I have Anthem Blue Cross medical insurance through the California Society of CPA’s.
The recent “cyber attack” of Anthem Blue Cross is very concerning since the data breached includes ALL the pieces of information criminals need to steal someone’s identity. This means that my name, address, social security number, date of birth, name and address of my firm, income data, and much more is now “out there.”
Anthem has created a dedicated website for its members (past & present) to learn more about the attack as well as a toll-free number to call with questions. The number is 1(877) 263-7995. I have been to the website and it does not say much other than they are sorry. However, past and present members will be able to sign up for credit monitoring and identity protection on the Anthem website tomorrow (Friday the 13th).
As a precaution I have registered for an account on Equifax and purchased a fraud protection subscription. The other two major credit reporting agencies are Experian and Transunion. There is also Life Lock. This is such a big deal, I suggest that folks explore one of these options. The consequences of identity theft are severe and extremely difficult to correct.
